Single-minded success all over the country
Article Abstract:
Country music singer and songwriter Matraca Berg began writing songs at a very early age, and it never occurred to her to consider any other career. She wrote her first hit at 18, but her singing career began much later, and she recorded her debut album in 1991. Her new album 'Sunday Morning to Saturday Night' is her best yet, containing songs which deal with issues such as death and divorce. She admires expressive voices, and still lacks confidence in her own singing abilities.

Square-peg city
Article Abstract:
Songwriters find it hard not to give way to commercial temptations and compromise the quality of their work, according to Gretchen Peters. She has gained extensive experience as a songwriter, having had her first success with a song for George Jones. She is now moving towards singing, and has released a set of songs entitled 'The Secret of Life.' These deal with the problems of womanhood but avoid being overly sentimental.
