Sir Alf Ramsey
Article Abstract:
Footballer and football manager Alf Ramsey joined the Army in 1940, serving in the Duke of Cornwall's Light Infantry. He played football as an amateur for Portsmouth, and was subsequently spotted by Southampton playing services football. He had played for England by 1948, and in 1949 joined Tottenham Hotspur. He became a regular England player, and played in the 1950 World Cup Finals in Brazil. He moved into management with Ipswich Town in 1955.

Footballer David Rocastle was born in London, England, in 1967. He was signed as an apprentice by Arsenal in 1983 and turned professional in 1984.
