Sir Christopher Cockerell
Article Abstract:
Sir Christopher Cockerell was an inventor and designer who invented the hovercraft, initially testing his ideas using kitchen equipment and an air blower. He studied engineering at Cambridge University, England, and later worked at Marconi. The British government took time to show interest in his hovercraft project, and the armed forces could not decide whether it was a plane or a boat. The Marines eventually showed most interest in hovercraft. Cockerell is creited with other inventions such as wave power.
