Sleaze damages the economy as well as politics
Article Abstract:
It is impossible to sustain many types of economic contract in a society where corruption and fraud are rife. This may partly explain the differences in performance between rich and poor countries. A belief that everyone is involved in corruption is very damaging, and further problems are caused in societies where social security regulations give many people incentives to give a false representation of their situation. Living in a society where fraud is regarded as acceptable clearly has direct economic implications.

What not to do about the housing market
Article Abstract:
The UK government is coming under considerable pressure to take positive action to revive the housing market. Some of the measures which have been suggested, such as the abolition of stamp duty on house purchase and tax breaks for those with negative equity, may boost house values and increase turnover in the market. However, they could also have a very negative impact, creating an artificial boom which will lead to a much larger slump.

Exploding the housing market myths
Article Abstract:
There are many myths about the UK housing market. These include the idea that there are currently more purchasers than sellers and the idea that prices cannot simply continue to rise. Most myths are harmless, but the idea that it is necessary to construct 4 million new homes, mainly in the South-east, in order to avoid a housing shortage is damaging, as the government appears to support this view and is acting on it.
