How can we learn what's in the food we're about to eat?
Article Abstract:
Soya, which is a key ingredient in around 60% of the processed foods consumed in the UK, is now being grown in a genetically modified form which can resist weedkiller. It is likely that other modified foods, including sugar beet and oilseed rape, will be available in the near future. Most ordinary Britons are opposed to genetically modified food, but there is actually no clear evidence as yet indicating that genetically modified food is damaging to human health. The introduction of genetically modified soya in the UK will now largely depend on the success of public relations activities.

2010: learning the hard way
Article Abstract:
Student life in the UK has changed rapidly over recent years as the proportion of 18-year-olds entering university has risen to almost one in three and many adults have decided to study at university to obtain additional qualifications. Students are facing much harsher financial conditions than they did in the past, and most are now in considerable debt. Many are now forced to work in order to support themselves or to remain at home with their parents.
