Small is beautiful with Tessa
Article Abstract:
It is estimated that Tax-Exempt Special Savings Accounts (Tessas) worth around 5 billion pounds sterling will mature in 1997, with the average pay-out for the maximum investment of 9,000 pounds sterling over five years being around 11,500 pounds sterling. Individual investors will have to decide what to do with this money. It is not possible to reinvest the interest earned on a maturing Tessa, but the capital can be retained in a deposit account for up to six months before a decision is made. It is likely that most investors will choose a follow-on Tessa.

The way to better motor insurance
Article Abstract:
Motor insurance premiums have fallen dramatically recently as low-price insurers have entered the market. Top insurance companies are now attempting to fight back against this competition by offering incentives such as free breakdown insurance. It is also becoming possible to purchase additional breakdown services at a much lower rate than those offered by the AA and RAC. Large insurance companies have a great deal of purchasing power, so have been able to negotiate attractive deals with breakdown companies.

It all comes out in the wash
Article Abstract:
Unilever's reputation has been badly damaged by problems with its 'Persil Power' washing powder, which is claimed by competitors to damage fibres. The company invested 200 million pounds sterling in developing the manganese accelerator which the product contains, but some leading supermarkets have already stopped selling it. This has had a serious impact on consumer confidence, and has helped to increase the market share of P and G, Unilever's main rival.
