Sound and vision
Article Abstract:
The ECM record label, created in Munich, Germany, in 1969 by Manfred Eicher, has gained a strong reputation for its distinctive house style, focusing on chamber jazz and contemporary classical recordings. Eicher remains head of ECM, and this is why the label has been able to retain its independence. He is still closely involved in post-production work, and this ensures that each recording bears the ECM identity. ECM's success has had an influence on the development of jazz itself.
