Speak up, cash in
Article Abstract:
There tends to be a secrecy about salaries in Britain, which means that it is easier for companies to pay less to women. Women tend to ask for less than men, since their expectations are lower. Women tend to earn less than men as they get older, with women in their 50s earning 72% of men's pay, compared with 91% in their early 20s. Women tend to be more concerned about skills they do not have than those that they do have, and are more worried about negative feedback. Women should press for training and information on salaries as a way of remedying this inequality.

It's Friday, it's four o'clock and it's time to boogie
Article Abstract:
It has become increasingly common in the UK for employers to play music in their offices on Fridays. This can be seen as an extension of the practice of allowing employees to wear more casual clothes on Fridays and offering them a glass of wine at 4pm. Some observers believe that playing music has a positive impact, boosting employee motivation at the end of the working week. Others have reservations, feeling that it is impossible to select a musical style that will appeal to all employees.
