Stock markets are casinos - but unwary gamblers may still win out
Article Abstract:
Investment and speculation have traditionally been seen as completely opposite approaches to involvement in the stock market. However, it is possible to argue that they are in fact closely related, according to market trader Victor Niederhoffer. He believes that investors can derive benefits from looking at any area of life where people make their livings from gambling money on risk and reward. In this context, activities at the casino and the race track can offer valuable lessons.

Long-term future impossible to predict
Article Abstract:
Investors in the UK have been unable to decide whether they approve of Chancellor Gordon Brown's recent Budget. Financial markets have become considerably more volatile, a trend which is often associated with Budgets. It tends to take a considerable length of time before markets absorb the full implications of a Budget, and initial reactions are almost always misguided. If a Budget is initially warmly received, then it will almost always be regarded as negative in the long term.

Gloom grows as debts rise
Article Abstract:
It is possible that the current crisis facing world financial markets will have a very negative impact on European monetary union, according to bond and economics commentator Stephen Lewis. He believes that the main problem in Asia is the collapse of the Japanese economy. In Russia, he feels that the debt defaults announced by the government will spread to eastern Europe. He believes that the current crisis can only be resolved with effective political leadership.
