Article Abstract:
Taiwan has become economically prosperous and has made considerable progress towards democracy under president Lee Teng-hui. However, he has been given little international recognition for his achievements, as many countries are unwilling to offend China, which is highly critical of him. He aims to bring about full democracy in Taiwan, but is not hesitating to do this by using the great financial and operational strength of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT) party.
