Afghanistan's Taliban regime has stated that it will call on all Muslims to help protect the country's borders against any US strikes in retaliation for the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. However, it has said that it may hand over Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect, if certain conditions are met.

Talks between Pakistan and the Taliban regime in Afghanistan seem to have failed to bring about the surrender of Osama bin Laden, who is regarded as being behind the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. Up to 25,000 Afghan fighters are now assembling close to the Pakistan border.
