Tango with strings attached
Article Abstract:
Musicians have a responsibility to create and to give life, according to Argentinian bandoneon player Dino Saluzzi. His approach to music seems to differ considerably from that of the Rosamunde Quartet, which specializes in the 20th century European classical repertoire. However, he has linked with this quartet to record an album of tango variations entitled 'Kultrum.' He feels that it is vital to be true to the ideas of ordinary people and that musicians should not perform merely for themselves.

Mind your language
Article Abstract:
Musician Nitin Sawhney greatly resents the fact that most Britons seem to regard all Asian bands as being the same. He emphasizes that his music is very different from that of Talvin Singh, who won the 1999 Mercury Music Prize. He believes that he was attracted to music at an early age as a means of escape from the racism he experienced. He regards 'Beyond Skin,' his fourth solo album, as his statement of identity.
