The Alf Garnett version of history
Article Abstract:
Many Britons still have a very negative view of Germany, even though it is many years since Germany posed any danger to the UK. Germany is often seen in the UK as aggressive and expansionist, but this is now far from the truth. The reason why Britons fail to realise this is because Lady Thatcher did great damage to the UK's relations with Germany during her final years as prime minister. She was very hostile to Germany, and this inevitably meant that Germany began taking little account of the UK's views.

Fog of battle clouds Pervomayskoye's ugly truth
Article Abstract:
The hostage crisis in the village of Pervomayskoye, in Dagestan, prompted when Chechen rebels seized 116 people, has now come to an end. However, more than 200 people have been killed in the fierce fighting which broke out, and many of the rebels have escaped. There is still considerable uncertainty about the number of hostages who have been killed and how many remain Chechen prisoners.
