The loneliness of the long-distance city
Article Abstract:
Australia's remote location has had a considerable influence on its history, allowing it to develop independently from all other large economies. Its individual cities have also developed separately, as there are long distances between them. Its remoteness has kept its population low, but this may soon start to change. People may begin to be attracted to it because it is uncrowded, and advances in air travel and telecommunications may also put an end to its isolation.

Governments have little power these days - learn to live with it
Article Abstract:
Significant changes in the world economy since the 1970s have reduced the power of governments. Wealth is created by business, rather than by governments, and governments have lost their ability to control what happens to the economy. Governments present themselves as having created jobs or given people improved healthcare, but in fact they can do very little when there is a need to boost the economy. They must now make this clear to their electorates.
