Article Abstract:

The two men have a number of things in common, both being extremely wealthy and good public speakers. The borough was deliberately targeted by Sir James Goldsmith, who was aware that a political battle there would attract extensive media coverage. He believes that he has a good chance of coming a close second to David Mellor, if not of defeating him.
