The bard of Barryton
Article Abstract:
Roddy Doyle is an author who wrote comic novels and then moved on to write tragedies which some people saw as too close to real life for comfort. Doyle is especially popular in Ireland, and there is a debate on how he represents the Irish. He shows virtues such as humor, resilience and individualism, as well as vices such as drink, violences and fecklessness. ' A Star Called Henry' is his latest work, and is an historical novel. The novel appears likely to offend a number of people, and the style is less cautious than his previous works.
