The English country garden - Down Under
Article Abstract:
There is very strong interest in gardening in the English style in Tasmania, Australia, even though it can actually be very difficult to grow typically English plants there. The natural plant life in Tasmania is predominantly silver and bronze, and gardens planted in the English style present a very sharp contrast. Tasmanian gardeners are particularly attracted to green foliage plants such as hellebores, brunneras and hostas. Such plants give them a sense of security within an environment which can sometimes be very hostile.

The bloom and bust syndrome
Article Abstract:
It is important to decide when grouping plants together whether to choose plants that will all reach their peak at the same time of year or whether to choose plants that will provide a succession of interest. Some plants, particularly euphorbias and hellebores, will contribute to the garden throughout the year, and it is worth including these in any plant grouping. It is particularly worth focusing on foliage, as leaves will make any garden seem to flourish.

And now for the shrubbery
Article Abstract:
A front garden needs careful attention, as it is the first part of the garden to be seen by visitors. However, this does not necessarily mean that it has to draw attention to itself. Certain elements in a front garden, especially a shrubbery, should serve as a backdrop, and need to be in sympathy with the house itself. It is important to consider which plants should be retained, and how much room there will be for new ones.
