The Martini, the morphine and Bertolt Brecht
Article Abstract:
Writer-director Shauna Kanter did not initially pay much attention when her dying father claimed that he had helped Bertolt Brecht's children leave Nazi Germany. However, she began to consider the possibility that he might have been telling the truth when she found a forged passport in his misspelt name and indications that he had entered Germany in 1939. It later became clear that he could not have helped Brecht's children to escape, but it is very likely that he helped another family. These experiences became the subject of Kanter's latest play, 'Legacy.'

She's walking on sunshine
Article Abstract:
It is vital to present gospel music in a way that makes it understandable to audiences, according to gospel singer Queen Esther Marrow. She accepts that gospel songs can sound very similar to people who are not familiar with gospel music, so tries to ensure that her show has considerable variety. She is keen to distance herself from the religious aspect of gospel music, as she is concerned that this may deter some people. She always becomes strongly involved in the emotion of gospel music, and can never get through a show simply on technique.

A script with convictions
Article Abstract:
Theatre director Stephen Powell felt rather ashamed when his father Brian was imprisoned. However, he also felt a certain element of excitement about his father's lifestyle. He became aware at an early age that there were serious shortcomings in the criminal justice system, and felt that people like his father were never treated fairly. He has used his father's experience in a new play, 'Tooled Up.'
