The bad grace of the Vatican
Article Abstract:
The Vatican responded to the Church of England General Synod decision to approve the ordination of women with a statement that it obstructed reconciliation. The Anglican Communion has a special relationship with the Church of Rome, and the Church of England is catholic in nature. Some Synod members feel it has no theology of its own, so should not ordain women until the Church of Rome does. The Vatican does not appear to be negotiating ecumenism after Dec 1991, so Anglicans have no real need to comply with Rome.

Power to the people in the pews
Article Abstract:
The very nature of the Church of England will be changed if the recommendations of the Turnbull Commission are fully implemented. More power will be placed in the hands of the people who are actually active in the church today, with the influence of those who established church law being reduced. The changes will also make the Church of England more independent of the state.
