The language of the tongue
Article Abstract:
French neurobiologists, philosophers, sociologists and agricultural engineers investigated the sense of taste for the magazine 'L'Amateur de Bordeaux' and found objective measurement practically impossible because of individuals' differing sensitivities. Social training affects the facts decided on by the tasting organs of the body. Traditional categories of bitter, sour, salt and sweet have been narrowed down from Aristotle's dozen and Linnaius's 10 in 1751.

If you want the prize, don't be tongue-tied
Article Abstract:
European graduates are in demand but continental employees are better at foreign languages than the British. Students with postgraduate qualifications find employment more easily than graduates. Employees appreciate postgraduate degrees in European studies and business administration rather than more academic subjects. Two-year courses include time to study the language by studying or working abroad. Work experience is also valuable to potential employers.

Och, don't succumb to the Sassenach's tongue
Article Abstract:
Modern Scottish usage is declining in the 90's as standard English is used more. Canada, America, Australia and Ireland also use English different from British English. The Scots seem keener to adopt Anglicisation. Much Scottish vocabulary is influenced by French. It also shares idiom with North America. Some examples are given. British insularity is demonstrated by renaming Main Streets High Streets.
