The bells toll once more for the established C of E
Article Abstract:
The disestablishment of the Church of England (C of E) was seen as a key issue among constitutional reformers in the 19th century, and it has become less important in 1997. Yet there are issues which could lead to questions about the position of C of E, such as the possible desire of Prince Charles to marry his mistress. He is also Supreme Governor-designate of the C of E, and Defender of the Faith, so a conflict would arise. A law banning religious discrimination could also lead to questions as to why members of the Royal Family are not permitted to marry Roman Catholics, and why Catholic bishops cannot join the House of Lords.

How we all fought to end Labour's political corruption
Article Abstract:
Neil Kinnock saved the UK Labour party, even though he did not win the 1992 general election, according to Tom Sawyer, the party's General Secretary. Kinnock was involved in bitter conflicts, while Prime Minister Tony Blair has faced far fewer challenges since he became party leader. Sawyer accepts that there is a perception that the Labour party has become rather detached from government, and feels that Blair must address this issue in his speech to the party conference at the end of Sep 1998.

Maybe this time he'll be the bride
Article Abstract:
Some observers had started to dismiss Michael Heseltine, believing that his political career was coming to an end. However, they are now changing their views, seeing that he has the potential to become the leader of the Conservative party. He has been exploiting all available opportunities to gain support, although he is being careful not to clash directly with prime minister John Major.
