'The best start for our children is an early one.' (importance of nursery education)
Article Abstract:
It has been widely recognised for many years in the UK that nursery education plays a key role in increasing educational standards overall. However, the present Conservative government has failed to set up an effective system of free nursery education. The Labour party has responded by publishing plans to replace the voucher scheme which is currently being tested with an entitlement to nursery education for all four-year-olds. It also hopes to be able to expand nursery education for three-year-olds.

'The kids called me nigger. I wanted to hurt them. I didn't feel sorry.' (trial of Horrett Campbell, who threatened children in a nursery)
Article Abstract:
A strong feeling of being victimised prompted paranoid schizophrenic Horrett Campbell to attack children in a nursery school in Wolverhampton, England. The accused, who is currently standing trial, claimed that the children had verbally abused him, and believed that they represented the devil. His defence lawyer has stated that he did not know what he was doing and that he intended to hurt, but not to kill.

Choice begins in the nursery
Article Abstract:
The London borough of Wandsworth is to run a pilot scheme under which the parents of 3,300 four-year-olds will receive vouchers worth 1,100 pounds sterling for nursery education. This is part of a wider government policy of increasing parental choice in education, and should be welcomed. In many cases, this will be the first time that parents have had control over their child's education.
