Article Abstract:

Motor neurone disease (MND) sufferer Annie Lindsell campaigned tirelessly for the right for the terminally ill to die at a time of their own choosing. Following her death on Dec 1, 1997, her family and friends have created the Annie Lindsell Trust. This will raise funds for medical research into the causes and treatment of MND. Its first venture will be a CD of songs by Lindsell, a former air stewardess and cabaret performer. It plans a gala concert in summer 1998 and a commemorative ball around the first anniversary of her death.

Many people feel very intimated if they try to purchase works of art for their home, especially if they have very little knowledge about art. However, some art galleries are now trying to be more welcoming to amateur buyers. Purchasers may prefer to buy by mail order, as this can be less intimidating than entering an art gallery. Mail order concern Art Room, for example, recognises that some people simply want a work of art which will match the existing decor in their home.

Kensington and Chelsea College in London, England, is running a 30-week course entitled Sculpture Materials and Techniques. This is aimed at beginners, but can take students up to A-level standard. Students learn the basic techniques in a range of materials, and are allowed to progress at their own pace. Tutor Tim Beswick tries to cover traditional approaches to sculpting and to introduce contemporary issues.
