The brightest turn their backs on corporate life
Article Abstract:
It is becoming increasingly clear that some of the UK's most intelligent young people are deciding against a career with a large company. They do not want to be obliged to work very long hours, and are seeking the freedom which a large company cannot offer. Many are choosing instead to set up their own business. This trend may bring considerable benefits to the economy, but will have a negative impact on large companies. They will have to offer increasingly large salaries to ensure that they attract and retain high quality staff, and will face serious problems if they cannot recruit intelligent young people.

Stronger UK economy will keep current account under control
Article Abstract:
Many observers have expressed surprise at the fact that the UK has returned to a current account surplus at a time when sterling has been rising strongly. This could be simply because the economy has not yet had time to respond to higher sterling. However, it could also be because exporter confidence has not fallen as sharply as it has in the past in response to the rise in sterling. Furthermore, some invisible exports are not sensitive to currency movements.

Everyone loves to beat the system
Article Abstract:
Opinion polls indicate that most people in the UK are prepared to pay more tax. However, this is only really because some many loopholes exist in the tax regulations, making it possible for many people to reduce their tax bill. Some argue in favour of retaining tax 'incentives,' while others believe that it would be better to simply reduce the rate of taxation for everyone and abolish complicated tax procedures.
