The burden of free trade
Article Abstract:
Globalization has proved effective in generating wealth, but has also been responsible for generating poverty, as the generation of wealth also requires wealth supporters, who work for low wages and therefore need to purchase goods made abroad by people earning even lower wages. The World Trade Organization is focusing on free trade, rather than ethical trade, but it is now time to move towards a compromise in which trade remains free but becomes more informed. Ordinary people must be enabled to make informed decisions about the goods and services they buy.
