The case of the hidden agenda
Article Abstract:
The UK government plans to change the structure and accountability of the police forces. The plans involve centralising, which has been gradually happening since the 19th century. The Home Office avoids responsibility by devolving power to local police authorities. Sir Patrick Sheehy's committee report of Jul 1993 on pay, rank structure and responsibilities recommends replacing promotion with performance-related pay. This ignores the value and motivation of rank. Performance measures may have an adverse effect on quality of service.

Hidden legacy of the fugitives from war
Article Abstract:
Thirty members of the infamous 12th Lithuanian police battalion which committed atrocities during the Second World War live in Britain in 1992. Hugh Dalton, Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1946, employed 114,000 men of the Polish Resettlement Corps in essential industries, but screening was inadequate. A Lithuanian company of 160 attached to the 2nd Polish Commando Battalion defected to the allies in northern Italy and became part of the Polish Armed Forces, thus ending up in Britain.

Yes, Opus Dei does have a hidden agenda ...
Article Abstract:
A recent newspaper article portrayed the Opus Dei organisation as a secretive right-wing cult. This is in fact far from the truth. Opus Dei exists to remind people of God's desire for them to have a deep, personal relationship with Him. It aims to revive the attitudes of the early Christians, who had a very strong commitment to Christ. It is particularly keen to break down the false divide between religious 'duties' and real 'life.'
