The doctor who finds death a laughing matter
Article Abstract:
Islamic Jihad will undertake more 'military operations' along the lines of the recent suicide bombings by two of its members in which 20 Israeli soldiers were killed, according to Dr Fathi Shkaki, the organisation's leader. He believes that these operations are justified in the fight to defend the Palestinian people's right to live in their homeland, and points out that many Palestinian civilians have been killed. He acknowledges that it is hard for Islamic Jihad to obtain weapons and explosives, but claims that it will go to great lengths to do so.

Precise defender of the PLO cause
Article Abstract:
The forthcoming elections for the 83-seat Palestinian legislature are a key element in the process of self-empowerment in Palestine, according to Hanan Ashrawi, former PLO envoy to the US. It is now time to move towards an inclusive democracy, and Hamas, the largest Islamist group, should abandon its boycott of the elections. The Israeli government has made a number of mistakes, and this is one of the reasons behind the assassination of Yitzhak Rabin.

Joke sours for PLO's laughing policeman
Article Abstract:
Positive moves are being made towards re-establishing the identity of the Palestinian people, according to Major-General Nasser Youssef, commander of the Palestinian police. Palestinians now have the opportunity to rebuild what was destroyed by the occupation in Gaza, and they are gaining an international entity. He believe that it is now time to allow all concerned parties to take part in a democratic process.
