The eager diva
Article Abstract:
Making opera more accessible to ordinary people can be a very difficult task, according to opera singer Lesley Garrett. She has made great efforts to demystify opera, but has often been patronised for doing so. She has also been portrayed as a great self-publicist. Most people in the UK still see opera as elitist and hard to understand, and she is determined to eliminate these stereotypes, promoting opera as interesting, believable and exciting.
