The fight for the soul of salsa
Article Abstract:
Conflict has emerged over the teaching of salsa in the UK. Some salsa teachers wish to establish links with the British dance scene through the United Kingdom Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dancing, while others wish to develop an independent salsa association emphasizing cultural purity through focusing on salsa's Latin origins. Salsa is becoming extremely popular, but salsa teachers remain divided over how best to benefit from this trend. The issue of how tightly regulated salsa should be has become a very emotive one.

Professor of stand-up comedy
Article Abstract:
Stand-up comedian Bill Bailey feels a great need to have something in his show that he finds intellectually stimulating. He reads extensively, probably as a reaction to his lack of academic activity in his earlier years. He is not comfortable with talking about himself, and he would rather draw on history and literature for material. He is also extremely interested in popular culture. He begins a five-week tour of the UK on May 1, 1998, and will then tour Australia and New Zealand.
