The last days of Rudolf Nureyev
Article Abstract:
Rudolf Nureyev first discovered he was HIV-positive in 1984, when little was known about Aids. He was director of ballet at the Paris Opera at that time. Daily intravenous injections with a French drug kept him well until 1987-8 when he demanded AZT. The disease worsened from summer 1991. In the spring of 1992 he went to the Ambroise-Pare clinic at Neuilly for an operation on a viral infection of the heart lining. He was finally hospitalised on Dec 20, 1992.
