The fine lines of a dirty mind
Article Abstract:
The Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington, London, England, is currently staging an exhibition of the work of artist Aubrey Beardsley, who died in 1898 at the age of 25. His work covers only around five years, but it is possible to identify a progression during that time. The exhibition gives an interesting insight into Beardsley's sources, with its most unusual element being the final room, where the artist's heritage is presented with particular emphasis on the 1960s.

Anything's possible on the road to excess
Article Abstract:
The Whitechapel Gallery in London, England, is holding an exhibition of around 12 large canvases and some small pictures by Peter Doig. These are landscapes painted from photographs, postcards or film-stills, rather than outside or from memory. The scenes themselves do not appear particularly interesting, but the paintings are actually full of calculated uncertainties. Doig includes a random range of registers in a single picture, and treats paint as its own graffiti.

Jack of all styles, master of none
Article Abstract:
The Tate Gallery in London, England, is staging an exhibition entitled 'The Art of Bloomsbury.' This exhibition focuses on the careers of Roger Fry, Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. It can be argued that these are not good painters, and the exhibition is therefore too large. It seems that they always sought to duplicate effects they admired in the work of other artists, and for this reason the exhibition is like a never-ending degree show.
