The giant steps to freedom from the Killing Fields
Article Abstract:
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights, agreed in 1948, is a clear reflection of wise political leadership, according to UK Secretary of State for International Development Clare Short. However, it is now time to review human rights, placing more emphasis on rights to work, education, enjoyment of culture, health and a fair wage. It is important to show that there is strong public support for the rights in the declaration and that a further 50 years of human rights abuses will not be tolerated.

From Khartoum to London: 20 hours of terror aborad Sudan Air flight 150
Article Abstract:
A group of at least six Iraqis hijacked a Sudan Airways flight in mid-air between Khartoum, Sudan, and Amman, Jordan, holding hostage 186 passengers and the crew of 12. The hijackers initially demanded to be flown to Cyprus, where the plane was allowed to refuel. It then travelled towards Heathrow, but had to be diverted to Stansted because of fog. Once there, the hijackers were prepared to engage in negotiations, and eventually freed all their hostages without violence.
