The great recovery is postponed again
Article Abstract:
Predictions for recovery in the house market made in 1991 have not happened. The Halifax Building Society, the biggest provider of mortgages, forecast that prices will rise in the latter half of 1993, beginning in the north. Other experts forecast London beginning the recovery or prices falling before increasing in 1994. Over 160,000 inherited homes entered the market in 1992, more than new houses from builders. The fall in interest rates should attract buyers, but many people fear unemployment.

A pot of gold under the kitchen sink
Article Abstract:
The sale of house contents or chattels can produce more than local valuers estimate. Taking furniture, china, paintings and other chattels to large specialist firms in London and other big cities is worthwhile. It can be useful to get estimates from various local companies. Some small items are in demand and will sell for surprising amounts. Local auctions may not have sufficient bidders.
