The incredible vanishing woman
Article Abstract:
Singer Ella Fitzgerald, 75, had no musical training. Her deep voice sounds like a clarinet. Her performance demonstrates an interpretation of the song rather than self-expression. Her delivery is very precise. Her first hit was 'A-Tisket A-Tasket' on May 02, 1938. She was with the Decca record label from 1935 to 1955. She recorded many popular American songwriters' songs on the Verve label between 1955 and 1966. She also has a penchant for childish tunes. She sang jazz with the Illinois Jacquet Band.

Taking class out of the classics
Article Abstract:
Some observers see classical music concert promoter Raymond Gubbay in a positive light, believing that he has played an important role in making classical music accessible to ordinary people. Others believe that he has cheapened classical music. He is not concerned about criticism of his work, and continues a business which appears to be run in a modest way but achieved turnover of around 4 million pounds sterling in 1994.
