The birth of a new language in the courtroom - English
Article Abstract:
Significant changes are being introduced to civil procedure in the UK as a result of proposals from Lord Justice Woolf. The changes are designed to make the civil system easier for ordinary people to understand and to make it easier for a litigant to conduct a case personally. Considerable emphasis is being placed on ensuring that ordinary English is used, rather than obscure Latin terms. However, there is a danger that the new system will not be effective in some ways. In particular, it is likely that people with a deserving case will have it struck down for non-compliance with some rule of procedure.
