A farewell to arms - of the dottier sort
Article Abstract:
The UK's charity laws, some of which date back several centuries, need to be radically reformed in order to deal with the rapidly expanding size of the charitable sector. This sector now has turnover of 15 billion pounds sterling a year, with capital worth around 25 billion pounds sterling. If reform is not undertaken urgently, ordinary people may soon turn away from charitable giving altogether, which would have disastrous consequences. However, it is unlikely that real reform would be undertaken by a future Labour government.

Where do all the New Men go?
Article Abstract:
It is often claimed that men belonging to the 'New Man' generation are more sensitive to their own emotions and those of people around them than men in previous generations were. They are prepared to take on all the tasks associated with fatherhood, and are willing to become less dependent on women. However, the reality is still far removed from this. Indeed, some observers question whether children really need a father at all, as fathers seem to have very little real effect on families.
