The lonely fight for freedom
Article Abstract:
Indonesia's poorest citizens live in appalling conditions, according to pro-democracy campaigner Dita Sari, who was released from prison in Jakarta, Indonesia, in Jul 1999. She served three years of a six-year sentence for participating in a demonstration by workers calling for higher wages and the introduction of health and safety regulations. She recalls that she believed the situation would improve after President Suharto resigned in 1998, but she now knows that nothing has really changed.
