The magazine that ruled the world
Article Abstract:
The New Yorker has had a significant impact on art and journalism since the second world war. Under Tina Brown's six-year editorship, it continued to publish articles by influential writers, and also became known for its use of British writers. The magazine gained new energy through Brown's use of good writers for newsworthy subjects, but did not abandon its commitment to informed and detailed journalism. Some observers believe that it should now become a monthly publication, as it is very expensive to publish and few of its readers are able to read all its very long articles every week.

Does Red really stand for revolution?
Article Abstract:
Some of the UK's glossy women's magazines seem to have been experiencing mixed fortunes in 1997, in sharp contrast with magazines aimed at men, teenagers and those interested in homes and interiors. According to some magazine editors, focusing on innovative journalism has allowed men's magazines to develop more rapidly than women's magazines. Glossy magazines have become based on a formula focusing on sex, beauty, health and fashion, and editors are unwilling to take the risk of moving in new directions.

This magazine for men sells 775,000 copies a month
Article Abstract:
Female nudity is used to sell men's magazines in the United Kingdom, in contrast to the US, where readers are judged to be more sensitive. FHM is a very successful men's magazine which has not achieved a growth in readership due to the quality of its writing, but because of its portrayals of women. Magazines which have sought to be respectable and which have not placed women on their covers have been less successful, and there is competition to secure pictures of the most attractive women.
