The other problem with jobs bought from the Japanese
Article Abstract:
The UK has received a considerable amount of overseas income from investments, in the form of both foreign plants and foreign companies. This has brought employment and knowledge, but has also had some negative effects. Most seriously, the UK has lost influence in specific cases. There is now a trend towards lower reliance on large foreign investments in manufacturing, with a growing realisation that foreign investment has brought mainly low-wage jobs which offer little satisfaction. It is now time to make better use of the UK's inherent intelligence and culture.

Don't get too cheerful, Mr Brown
Article Abstract:
MUK Chancellor Gordon Brown remains very positive about the government's economic achievements, emphasizing the healthy state of the country's finances and the rapid rate of economic growth. In fact, much of the UK's economic success can be attributed to being English-speaking and to having made significant structural reforms before continental Europe and Japan, factors that have nothing to do with Brown's economic policies. He will face much greater challenges in the near future as other major economies begin to grow rapidly and inflation starts to rise.
