The secret life of the superbugs
Article Abstract:
It is now becoming increasingly recognized that bacterial infections could be the cause of a wide range of conditions, including kidney stones, arthritis and obsessive compulsive disorder. A spiral-shaped bacterium named Helicobacter pylori seems to be associated with stomach cancer, for example, with around 50% of patients with lymphoma, a rare form of stomach cancer, being cured with antibiotics are used to destroy pylori. It is also believed that Chlamydia pneumoniae could be involved in some cases of asthma, arthritis and heart disease.

The biggest conflict in the world
Article Abstract:
There have been many casualties in the conflict between Ethiopia and Eritrea which began when Eritrea seized Badme, a triangle of desert in the Horn of Africa, in May 1998. Both countries are mobilizing armies of more than 250,000 men, and the conflict is having a negative impact on industrial and agricultural production. They have both invested very heavily in weapons, but have been forced to issue appeals for food aid. There are now signs that the conflict is spreading.
