The skirts you can keep, but oh what I'd give for a pair of shades and some trainers
Article Abstract:
The most impressive show of menswear for autumn 1998 has been that of Belgian designer Walter van Beirendonck for his label Wild and Lethal Trash. Many of his clothes were extremely impressive, as was the styling for the show itself. However, media attention focused instead on the show staged by Raf Simons. His collection was in fact rather disappointing, with his plain black shirts and trousers, woollen coats and cobweb knits looking somewhat old-fashioned. Many collections placed emphasis on sharp tailoring, along with fur collars and indistinct colours.

Walk like a man
Article Abstract:
Jean Paul Gaultier presented wide-cut trousers and waist-length jackets for men at Milan Spring/Summer 1999-2000. These clothes came in Gaultier's trademark colours of cacao, cream and cafe. Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana showed patchwork denim jeans worn low and very large, along with zebra print trousers and metallic lace shirts. Naoki Takizawa's collection for Issey Miyake included workwear blue calico tie-waist trousers and loose-fitting T-shirts and shifts.

Angels in America
Article Abstract:
The Hamiltons Gallery in London, England, is exhibiting a series of photographs by Duane Michals in tribute to poet Walt Whitman. The photographs feature a blond, lightly clad young man. In some, this man poses with a very large book, thus incorporating lines of Whitman's poetry. Others are juxtaposed with a range of texts. In some cases, the texts are short, while in others they are as significant as the images.
