The smell good factor
Article Abstract:
There is growing evidence that aromas, as well as having a positive psychological impact, can help in curing some physiological problems. Indeed, clinical forms of aromatherapy have been shown to be effective in treating conditions including herpes, epilepsy and respiratory infections. Clinical aromatherapy uses essential oils extracted from flowers, herbs, fruits and trees. In some cases, these oils may work at a local level, while in other cases they may stimulate the brain and affect the immune system.

Conquering phobias with virtual reality
Article Abstract:
Doctors and therapists are beginning to make increasing use of virtual reality (VR) to help people to overcome phobias, and have had considerable success with this technique. It has been found that people using VR experience the same panic reactions as they would in real life when exposed to the situation or object which they fear. Gradually exposing the patient to the cause of the fear can allow it to be overcome eventually.

Why do we have to turn a scare into a crisis?
Article Abstract:
The UK government issued a health warning about certain brands of contraceptive pill in Oct 1995, but failed to act in a way which would prevent women taking these pills from panicking. Many women simply stopped taking their pill immediately, and this has led to a strong rise in unwanted pregnancies. This is one of a number of incidents which have prompted complaints about the way new research findings are handled.
