The thirst for Hirst
Article Abstract:
The Turner Prize, an annual television event which aims to support contemporary British art and awards 20,000 pounds sterling to the winner, always attracts considerable controversy. This is the case again in 1995 as the shortlisted entries go on display at the Tate Gallery. Some observers believe that modern visual art has very little relevance, while others believe that the UK should try to remain at the forefront of latest artistic developments. The entries include Damien Hirst's 'Mother and Child Divided,' in which a bisested cow and calf are preserved in formaldehyde.

Art and the aftermath
Article Abstract:
The 'After Auschwitz' exhibition currently being held at the Imperial War Museum includes photographs by Henning Langenheim which give new insights into Nazi concentration camps. Many of the works focus on what is lost and absent, as seen in the stack of old suitcases by Fabio Mauri. At the ICA, an exhibition of the work of Belgian painter Luc Tuymans is being held. The Holocaust is a frequent subject in his paintings.

Would you want to live next door to these two sisters?
Article Abstract:
Twins Jane and Louise Wilson specialise in a disturbing form of performance art which mixes installation, film and video, photography and recorded performances. They bring in elements of their experiences of living in working class areas, and film themselves on LSD and under hypnosis. They are particularly interested in the links between art and madness and in the artificial derangements of drugs.
