The tribes they are a-changing
Article Abstract:
The UK Labour and Conservative parties have traditionally been able to rely on strong support in certain parts of the country. The Labour party has always been very strongly supported in the Welsh constituency of Merthyr Tydfil and Rhymney, for example, while the Conservative party has always done very well in Reigate, England. However, the traditional tribal nature of UK politics is now beginning to change. Indeed, in some cases long-standing voting patterns remain in place only because voters are offered no feasible alternative.

Mayday! Mayday! Can we really last six weeks?
Article Abstract:
Campaigning for the UK's forthcoming general election has taken on a new urgency since prime minister John Major confirmed officially that the election will take place on May 01, 1997. There will now be a lengthy period during which politicians will attempt to gain support from voters, but this could in fact have the opposite effect, causing voters to become tired of hearing so much about politics. There is certainly some urgency, but politicians may try to avoid direct conflict for the time being.
