The war ended over 50 years ago, so why can't we make peace with Japan?
Article Abstract:
It still seems acceptable in the UK to be very hostile towards the Japanese, even though anti-German sentiment is seen as no longer appropriate. The UK gains considerable benefits from Japanese investment, and Japan therefore finds it very hard to understand why it is still hated by many Britons. Continuing to focus on the prisoners of war issue encourages Britons to be completely self-righteous about the second world war, and makes it very hard to see events from the Japanese point of view.
