There's a bit of Sting in us all
Article Abstract:
The publicity surrounding the case of rock star Sting, who was robbed of 6 million pounds sterling by his accountant but did not notice that the money was missing, shows that it is all too easy to lose track of personal finances, even for people who have much less money than Sting. There is little good financial advice available, and people tend not to look very closely at the advice which is available. The financial services industry must now ensure that it creates products which people can trust and sell them efficiently.

Are we really becoming less co-operative?
Article Abstract:
The UK seems to be undergoing a significant change in attitude towards co-operative ventures. This is reflected in a number of different developments, including the decision by many building societies to abandon their co-operative structure and list on the stock market. Many new businesses are being set up, but there is very little activity in the co-operative sector. This could be partly because the commercial sector has become more competitive, but may also be attributable to the waning of the self-help ethos.

Bogey of inflation in danger of being deflated
Article Abstract:
Many countries in both the industrialised and developing worlds have achieved price stability, according to the recently published annual report from the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). Forces which lead to either inflation or disinflation are more balanced than they have been for some years, and financial markets have to be prepared to cope with developments in either direction. According to some observers, a prolonged period of disinflation could now develop.
