They used to tell us, 'go back home.' (problems facing black people living in United Kingdom)(Mandy Phillips and daughter Barbara)
Article Abstract:
Black people from Commonwealth countries who came to the UK in the 1950s and 1960s were not really accepted by whites, according to Mandy Phillips, who came to the UK from Dominica in 1960. She mostly mixed only with other Dominicans, and felt that life was not better in the UK than in Dominica, contrary to her expectations. Her daughter Barbara, born in 1963, has also experienced how black people can be alienated in British society. She believes that the situation is beginning to improve, but still finds some evidence of prejudice against blacks.

Goodness gracious me! Heard the one about the funny Asian?
Article Abstract:
It is important that Asian comedy does not become a fashion, as this would mean that it would eventually lose popularity, according to Asian comic Sanjeev Bhaskar. He has gained acclaim for his role in co-writing 'Goodness Gracious Me,' which began as a series of sketches on Radio 4 and has now become a popular television show. He acknowledges that his race may be a point in his favour. He believes that Asian comedy will now make progress because it has become part of the comedy infrastructure.
