Time to change the baby working blues
Article Abstract:
Women who are pregnant may find it difficult to change employment, as some employers in the UK are unwilling to take on pregnant women, who will inevitably require some time off work. Some employers also believe that taking on a pregnant woman will create additional costs, although this is in fact not the case. However, pregnant women also find that potential employers are prepared to be flexible. Honesty on both sides is the best approach. The 1975 Sex Discrimination Act makes it illegal for employers to discriminate against an applicant on the basis of pregnancy or intended pregnancy.

Stressed out? Try working smart, not long
Article Abstract:
The majority of managers regard work as a source of stress, according to recent research. Particular problems are caused by the conflict between the roles of parent and manager, by a lack of resources, by lack of job security and by insufficient opportunities for career progression. Manangement psychologists are now recommending that managers reduce their working hours, which will not affect the quality of their work, and that care should be taken to stick to efficient time management practices.

When the pressure gets too much
Article Abstract:
Adopting a very positive mental attitude can be very helpful in avoiding stress, even in people who work extremely hard. Ensuring an element of variety in each day helps, as does tackling problems rather than trying to pretend that they do not exist. It is important to establish a network of people who will be supportive during times of stress, as this can greatly relieve the burden and prevent stress becoming a permanent problem.
