To profit from endowments you need a policy of no surrender
Article Abstract:
People who took out with-profits savings plans and pensions in the 1970s are now receiving very large pay-outs, in some cases equivalent to an annual interest rate of 14.2%. However, almost all life offices will reduce annual bonuses in 1998, as they do not expect such strong investment growth in the future. There is now much more caution surrounding with-profits plans, as over recent years bonus rates have been higher than the long-term returns on the funds seem to justify.

Worth checking out in the age of supermarket savings
Article Abstract:
The UK market for mortgages and savings accounts has become increasingly competitive. Mutual building societies have traditionally offered better deals on these products than building societies that have converted to bank status, but both are now having to introduce special deals in order to avoid losing market share to direct sellers and telephone banks. Research indicates that building societies still tend to offer the best deals on long-term savings accounts.
