Singer/songwriter Jewel Kilcher admits to not being happy with some of her work. However, she has gained a considerable following in the US, and some of her songs are greatly admired for their simple clarity. She had a difficult childhood, and was exposed to the more negative aspects of life at an early age. She worked in harsh conditions and experienced serious illness before she reached a stage where she was able to focus on writing songs.

Tim Rose has faced many challenges during his career as a singer and songwriter. Most significantly, he lost the song 'Hey, Joe' to Jimmy Hendrix, and turned down Bob Dylan's song 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right.' He went through periods when it was very difficult to find work, and for some time was forced to earn money by singing advertising jingles. However, he has now been able to launch a new LP, 'Haunted.'
